5 essential steps to beautiful curly hair

There are different types of curly hair, and we have already told you about André Wakker's classification. What do they have in common? They all require proper and regular care.

Curls can seem unpredictable: adopting the right hair routine can be a long journey, punctuated by changes. To avoid trial and error, and because you ask us so often, we've listed 5 essential steps to beautiful curly hair. Try them out. They are validated by the Shaeri community!

1) Adopt good washing habits

For complete care, washing curly hair requires nourishing AND moisturising products. It is recommended to use a nourishing shampoo for curly hair. Avoid products containing sulphates or parabens... or silicone! Complete the wash by using a mask that will also serve as a detangler that will facilitate the styling of the hair. Finally, moisturizing is the key to soft, defined curls. Let your hair air dry and apply a serum or moisturizing spray to strengthen, add shine and structure your beautiful curls.

 2) Give your hair some rest!

Taking care of your hair sometimes means... stopping taking care of it. When you have curly hair, the sebum produced by the sebaceous glands is blocked at the level of the scalp and does not slide down the length of the hair. This is why you should avoid washing your hair every day: 2 washes per week are more than enough to maintain its natural balance. To give your hair a break, replace your shampoo a few times a year with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. This will cleanse your hair of the care residues that clog your scalp. In addition, the limescale in the water you use will wear your hair down: applying white vinegar or cider vinegar once a month will remove limescale deposits and make your hair shine.

3) Cut your hair regularly

To keep your hair healthy, it is recommended to cut it 4 to 5 times a year, i.e. every 3 months. This will prevent and avoid the appearance of split ends. Hair that is too long will be dry, dull and brittle despite all your efforts to nourish it. Quarterly straightening will strengthen the hair, give it back its shine and prevent it from falling out.

4) Adopt a weekly routine

After each wash, apply a mask to your hair to restore its strength and shine: once a week leave it on for 10 minutes under a warm towel. A pure aloe vera gel mask is highly recommended to care for your hair. Apply it to your lengths to moisturise the hair and to your scalp to purify it. For nutrition, it should contain shea butter or jojoba or avocado oil. These natural products are known for their effectiveness, as they are very rich and nourishing.

5) Avoid drying out

For beautiful, healthy curly hair, avoid straightening irons, hair dryers and other appliances. Heat damages the hair, distorts curls, and promotes frizz. In the long term, drying causes irreversible damage to the hair, including the appearance of split ends. Split ends are not limited to the ends of the hair and like to climb up the lengths of the hair. For healthy, beautiful curls, air-dry your hair and simply comb it through with a wide-tooth comb on wet hair. This will shape your curls and preserve the quality of your hair. For best results, apply a nourishing serum for complete hair care and a moisturising spray while your hair is still damp.
