Cocooning hair care

cocooning treatments

During winter, dry air and cold temperatures make curly hair more fragile. Adopt the right gestures and an adapted routine to keep your hair soft and supple!

The seasons have a huge impact on the condition of curly hair, due to its fragility and sensitivity. And it's quite simple: winter is the enemy of curls. The ambient air, drier than the rest of the year, accentuates the problems of dehydration of curly hair, which is dry by nature (the hair shaft being in the form of a "tight spiral", the sebum has difficulty circulating). It is therefore more vulnerable in winter, when the air is very dry, temperatures are low and UV rays are weak: it becomes fragile, dries out more quickly, becomes brittle, has a lot of frizz and even becomes "electric" (one of the consequences of cold: static electricity!). So it's time to take extra care of your hair. Here are the 5 key steps to get through the "hair winter" with peace of mind!

1/ reduce the frequency of shampooing

The first thing to do is to reduce the frequency of shampoos and use gentle, sulphate-free shampoos that are moisturising and rich in plant oils to clean the hair without drying it out! And a little reminder: only apply shampoo to the scalp, massaging gently to stimulate blood circulation and tone the scalp - and use lukewarm water instead, because water that is too hot attacks the scalp!

2/ Apply a mask regularly

So yes, we tell you this every season... but in winter, it's even more important: take the time to apply a nourishing and regenerating mask after each shampoo (on the lengths)! And what's great about our Intense Mask Care with Prickly Pearis that it's effective even without any application time... So no excuses!

3/ focus on vegetable oils

Plant oil baths are a great way to care for your curls in winter. You know our 5 favourite oils: prickly pear oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil and camellia oil. Leave it on for half an hour to an hour before shampooing (or even the night before!), our Care Oil deeply nourishes the hair fibre and acts as a real shield against dryness. Soft hair guaranteed!

4/ moisturise your hair every day

Moisturise (and nourish) your hair daily. Not just every time you shampoo, but also in the morning, in the evening, and whenever it feels the need, whenever it is "thirsty"! A day care product is essential to moisturise the hair and ensure that it stays hydrated for a long time. Thanks to the combined action of avocado oil and vegetable glycerin, our Haircare spray Careis the perfect ally in the fight against dehydration: a little "spritz" in the palm of the hand (or directly on the hair) morning and evening, and a touch-up throughout the day if necessary: bye bye frizz!

5/ dry your hair gently

One of the complexities of winter is the drying stage: for those who are used to letting their hair air dry: impossible with the cold weather! But using a hair dryer all the time is not the best solution either... Instead, we recommend a two-step drying process:-

Step 1: "pre-dry" your hair in a microfiber towel (or even in a soft cotton T-shirt that you no longer use!);-

Step 2then, if necessary, you can finish with 5 minutes of blow-drying, but always with a diffuser, and at a not too high temperature!

And for those of you who like to blow-dry: should you leave it out during the winter? No, you can continue to blow-dry your hair without any problem! The important thing is to protect your hair beforehand with the right care products, such as our Haircare spray : it will nourish your hair and protect it from the heat of the hairdryer, while avoiding static electricity.

And one last #hairtips, before you leave home and if you wear a beanie: instead of your usual wool or cotton beanie (which will either attack the hair fiber for the one, or for the other one will totally "absorb" the day care you will have applied beforehand!), did you know that there are some with a satin lining? It's ideal to protect your hair and prevent the cold from weakening it: this soft material respects the hair fibre and keeps your hair moisturised!
